It will take ten years of training for you to learn all of the hieroglyphic symbols. You will have to learn seven hundred symbols by copying texts. Also, in that period of time you would learn how to write sentences and read hieroglyphics.

You will need to write in hieroglyphics about Gods, food, harvests, etc. This job will require you to be a good artist, since the symbols are detailed images. You will also be responsible to edit existing writings. In addition, you will have to monitor and keep records for all social levels, such as keeping track of farmer’s crops, and other people who did manual labor. Overall, the skills that you need to become a scribe are very important.
There are a bunch of tools that you will need to know how to use for the job. First, you will need papyrus paper to write on. You will use reed brushes dipped in ink to write with. The ink used was made by ancient Egyptians. The ink was made by grinding brightly colored minerals into powder, then the powder is mixed with liquid to make it easier to apply. A palette is what you would use to hold your tools. It combines two hollows for the inks and a slot for the pens.
If you are qualified to be a scribe, your day would look like this. You would write letters for fellow villagers who couldn't write. Also, you would make appointments with farmers to find out how many crops they have. Then, you would record the amount of crops harvested by the farmers. In addition, you would use your math skills to calculate the amount of food needed to feed the tomb workers. Finally, you would be responsible for keeping accounts and ordering supplies for temples and the Egyptian army. If you become a scribe your day would be very busy filled with a lot of responsibilities.
