Are you a man who loves diligent and thorough work? Do you enjoy being hunched over a bench all day? Do you love to work with your hands and craft jewelry? If you answered yes to all of these questions, then a jeweler is the perfect job for you! But remember, you MUST be a man--but you will make jewelry for both genders, since both wore LOTS!
Make shimmery and glittery accessories for the pharaoh--and once he’s reached the afterlife, he’ll remember your beautiful jewelry creations and make you happy in the Land of the Dead too! And make different pieces for officials and helpers to the pharaoh--because they ALL have various types of jewelry according to their rank!
Opportunities to honor the pharaoh with jewelry
Learn how to use your hands precisely--your only tool is a bow drill!
Get to play with shiny stuff all day!
Get to treat your bloodied and callused hands with lotions and creams!
Get to work with cool jewels like amethysts, turquoise, lapis lazuli, faience, garnet, carnelian, silver, gold, and even electrum!
Get to work in a shop or on a noble’s estate!
Get to make amulets--very spiritual and magical!
In a typical day in the life of a jeweler, you’ll get to work with tiny beads the size of a pea. Your hands will get abnormally sweaty from the hot work, too! Plus, you get to handle melted, hot glass--and most likely burn the already-callused hands to crisps! Putting the rod in the melted glass is called core forming--and you will get to experience it hands-on! You’ll get to make lots of things such as pendants, rings, anklets, beaded belts, earrings, armbands, headbands, diadems, bracelets, hair combs, and necklaces are just a few! And you’ll even get to experience the creation of the gorgeous wesekh collar, a long, low-hanging necklace with many strands of beads.
If you have ever sewn or made something out of fabric or clay and enjoyed it, you’ll be great for this job! Even if you hated it but made something decent, a jeweler might be right for you.
