The middle east has a very diverse geography. It is located form Southeast Asia to North Africa, also extending from the black sea to the arabian sea. A term applied to the middle east is the Fertile Crescent, which was made up in 1914 by James Henrey Breasted. The fertile cresent refers to the arc of the fertile agriculatural zone. What is now Iraq,Syria,Lebanon,and Isreal. Mountains and deserts divade the middle east into six zones that have influcenced cultural traditions through its history. In the first zone it is the nile river flows northward through the Sahara Desert from Sudan. The nile river acts a source of water,food, and fertail soil.The nile river has rich resources that are particulary gold. East if the Nile accrost the eastern desert is the eastern mediterrianian costal plain alos called, the levant a french word for rising it referres to the rising of the sun. The levant has been a cultural crossroad as far back as 11,000 BCE, ancient cultures such as Canaanite, Amorite, Israelite, and Phoenician have devoloped in this region. Southeast of the Levant is the Arabian Peninsula is has complex deserts, oases, and coastal regions along the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and Persian Gulf. Today the areas of the Arabian Peninsula include Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. Arab culture first apprears in this area around 1200 BCE and islam forst devolped in this area in towns such as Mecca and Medina. Mesopotamia is also in the middle eastern geography and is known as fertile agracultural zone. Northen Mesopotamia revicevs engough rainfall to grow grain crops but Southern Mesopotamia recieves no rainfall at all. Apart from fertile soil Mesopotamia contains few natural resources and is dependant on trade.The climate of the Middle East ranges from the warm summers and cold winters, through hotter summers and cool winters of northern Mesopotamia and the Mediterranean coast.
